Where did roosters originate from?  When did they come into existence? With the development of archeology, people were finally able to learn that the roosters' motherland is Pizhou, which has existed for over 6000 years.

The rooster must have appeared prior to the making of the chicken pottery. Therefore, people living as early as 6,000 years ago during the Yellow Emperor Period tamed the birds into domestic fowls.

A male chicken is called a "cock"  A young cock is called a rooster.  Although the cock is non monogamous, he cannot guard several nests at once, so he guards the general area where his hens are nesting.  They are territorial and will attack other roosters that enter his space.  The cock is said to "roost" over clutches of eggs to guard them. 

It's interesting to know, the cock is also a national symbol of France and is an unofficial national mascot, in particular for sports teams.
